Head to Scribante for some door-bashing action

The Engen Volkswagen Cup championship heads to the Friendly City for some decidedly robust racing action on Saturday, 3 May.

The field of Volkswagen Polo Vivo race cars has had five weeks to straighten panels, knock out the dents and replace side mirrors since their second championship round at Killarney. With the season shaping up to be a hotly contested one, it is likely the racers will leave the Port Elizabeth round with a bit more work to do on their cars.

Following the first two events, Port Elizabeth racer Daniel Rowe (11 – Ferodo Racing) has amassed the most points to lead the series by 12 points. With two rounds and four races already completed, not one driver has yet managed to win more than a single race – which means there are already four different race winners.

The first race of the season was won by Mathew Hodges (M3 – ITR Africa / 959 Panelbeaters) – the first time a Master competitor has won a race overall. Rowe won the second race and in the CaPort Elizabeth the victories went to Dewald Brummer (2 – MAD Racing / GMP) and Tasmin Pepper (31 – PG Glass).

Hodges’ race victory at that first event keeps him in the lead of the Masters category by the narrowest of margins. Just two points keep him ahead of Trevor Bland (M6 – PG Glass) as these two newcomers to the Masters (for racers older than 27) fight for the lead.

Scribante poses a challenge for racers due to its layout which makes overtaking difficult – and with a full starting grid getting past other cars during the races poses great risks. The reciPort Elizabeth for success here is a good qualifying position to get near the front of the field – and then good luck for the grid position draw.

The draw is for the top six starting positions in each race. The fastest six drivers during the qualifying session are entered into this draw which dictates their starting position for each of the races.

Port Elizabeth race fans can look forward to two action-packed races from the Engen Volkswagen Cup racers as they challenge for track position and points in this exciting series.
