Have Black Bag, Will Travel and ….

It may surprise you to know that not all your household rubbish ends up in a refuse dump.

Household refuse is typically collected on a Thursday in Fernglen and Sunridge Park.

A number of our residents put their garbage bags out for collection well before the usual collection times.

In some cases I have noted bags already out by Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

This practice allows some of the more unsavoury characters that frequent our streets to dig through your rubbish at their leisure, and in some cases, to wander off with entire bags.

On a recent outing into the Baakens Valley behind Fernglen, the Baakens Buddies came across this chap, he has managed to create his own personal dump site in the Valley.

In a conservative estimate, the contents of at least 100 black bags is strewn over an area covering about 30m²

This is not an isolated incident and we don’t often see this volume in one place, we do often come across black refuse bags and their contents in the valley adjacent to our suburbs.

Please help us out here, good work is being done by volunteers to try to maintain the pathways and to contain the alien vegetation in the Baakens Valley.

We would rather not spend our time picking up bags and bags of household refuse.

Please do only put your bags out on a Thursday and encourage your neighbours to do the same.
