The Humewood Golf Club annual Pro-Am in Port Elizabeth has partnered with Market Square Volkswagen and the Humewood Pro Shop to host the 10th anniversary of this event and collectively aim to raise over R250 000 for charity.
The Pro-Am will be payed from 4 to 5 June 2017 with a limited field of 25 PGA Professionals and 75 amateur golfers from around the country participating each day.
With R30 000 up for grabs over the two days, the Pro’s are gearing up to once again take on the 96th ranked course in the world (and 11th in South Africa) and the only “true links” course in Africa on the first day, following which they will test their skills on Port Elizabeth’s favourite Golf Estate, Wedgwood on the second day. Both courses are in pristine condition with their identical bent grass greens and undulating fairways.
Brendon Timm, the Head PGA Professional at Humewood commented; “We are delighted to announce our new and very proud sponsor for this tenth instalment, Market Square Volkswagen Uitenhage were very eager to get involved. Last year was the first double header with Wedgewood and with its success, we have decided to host the same format again. Roger Wessels who narrowly lost to Mark McNulty a few weeks ago on the senior tour will be in the field to take on the rest of the PGA Professionals. This will make for a strong field of contenders and with some wind predicted, the local players are certain to make an impact.”
Tracy Weise, Dealer Principal of Market Square VW said; “We believe our strength as a dealership is supported by the community within which we operate, and therefore we are always delighted when we are able to give back to our community. We plan to have a range of vehicles on display on the day, not to mention the opportunity to test the 4 X 4 course at Humewood Golf Day in the recently launched New Amarok. Take the opportunity to pop out for a Sunday drive and see the latest Volkswagen vehicles on offer.”
The Pro-Am is in aid of Hanna’s Arms, founded by two mothers, Esmé Chesworth and Sonja de Necker in 2011. They decided to join forces in working towards serving babies born into crisis, with the focus being on the baby and his/her immediate physiological and emotional needs.
Hannah’s Arms is an organisation which rescues abandoned, neglected and abused babies and toddlers, ages 0-3 years. Their aim is to be the voice of those who cannot speak for themselves and to seek the best care for each child going forward – which Hannah’s Arms believe is within a family.
Abandoned, neglected and abused babies are nurtured within an intimate family group with parents and even siblings. By taking these little ones into carefully selected safety parent homes, Hannah’s Arms are able to love and care for them as if they were their own until they are placed in foster families or returned back to their biological families.
