Ghetto Deep Dig Deep and Help

22 March 2011 By Siyathetha

Hip Hop crew, Ghetto Deep are part of a fund-raising talent show taking place on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

The fund raiser is being organised by the “Hear Now” Trust and the family of a young Port Elizabeth woman, Shanice Smith, who suffers from 95% hearing loss and needs to raise R250 000 for a cochlea implant.

Popular group, Ghetto Deep will be headlining the event together with a wide range of other acts including dancers, singers and comedians.

According to co-founder of the group, Gavin Richenberg, Ghetto Deep was approached by the family of Smith to participate in this event due to their popularity and reputation in the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth.

“We really respect Shanice,” says Riechenberg. “She attends St James Senior Secondary – which is not a special needs school. She is in grade 11, and she has made it almost all the way through school just by reading lips. We hope our involvement in this fund-raiser will help her reach her dream of matriculating with her cochlea implant next year.”

Ghetto Deep is a four member group, formed in 1997 by two brothers Gavin and Keth Richenberg. To date, they have recorded five albums. Popular tracks include “PE & Skarrel”, “Hold Me Down”, “Children and Women” and “Ja Jiva” from their recent album launched in 2009.

The fund-raising talent show will take place on Saturday, March 26 at the UCC Community Hall in Bloemendal. Tickets for adults will be on sale at the door for R30. Tickets for under 18’s are R15. The show starts at 18h00.

For more information, contact Landi Smith at the “Hear Now” Trust on 078 322 6956 or Gavin Riechenberg from Ghetto Deep on 078 320 4082.
