In economics, the invisible hand of the market is a metaphor conceived by Adam Smith to describe the self-regulating behavior of the marketplace. Individuals can make profit, and maximize it without the need for government intervention. The concept of the ‘invisible hand’ captures Smith’s important claim that individuals’ efforts to maximize their own gains in a free market may benefit society, even if the ambitious have no benevolent intentions.
The time has long since passed for our lords and masters in government to learn this important principal.
We have missed the plot completely here by allowing a few self serving interests to:
- Regulate via BEE who we may or may not employ in a pathetic attempt to “get the demographics right”
- Introduce, with unseemly haste and in an election year, the Employment Tax Incentive bill.
So we now have two major bills that are having a major impact on thwarting the ‘invisible hand’ by forcing employers to make employemnt decisions based on the colour of a persons skin, their gender, their dis/ability and age.
Kinda makes a mockery of a wonderful constitution guaranteeing all forms of freedoms, doesn’t it?
Government has a mandate to run our COUNTRY but NOT a mandate to run our LIVES. We need a government that will facilitate and nurture freedom of association and expression. A government not afraid to trust it’s citizens to find like minded Africans so that together they can pursue health, wealth and happiness.
