Four Winds – Find Out my Poison of Choice

24 March 2011 By Alan Straton

The Four Winds Music Festival is an annual festival held at the Mannville Theatre in St George’s Park Port Elizabeth. Set amidst the beautiful palm trees and under an open sky, it is a chance for people to listen to the talented artists that Port Elizabeth has to offer in a relaxed, scenic environment. You are invited to bring a picnic basket, blankets and chairs and settle in for an evening of great music from a variety of musicians.

Back in the day when the hair was long and untinged with grey, the figure was svelte, the Longhair younger and not showing the ravages of popping two dwarves out, we were regulars at the Four Winds Folk Festival. Picnic basket in hand we were young and carefree Richmond Hillians who experimented with our mind altering ‘poison’ of choice (are you listening Mandy?) – a tot of Southern Comfort in a champagne glass with dry champagne as our ‘mix’ – two of those and I was anyones! Many was the year that we lost our way home or woke up in the early hours of the morning to deathly silence and an empty stage.

This years’ festival will take place on Friday the 1st of April (6-11:00 pm) and Saturday the 2nd of April (4-11:00 pm). Entrance will be R60 for adults and children under 12 are free.

The line – up for Friday includes: Simon Shaw, Kyle Freitag, Coffin Dodgers, Andrew Osborne, Bogtrotters, Colin & Mo, Van Wyk Brothers, Brothers of Other Mothers and Jono Muller

The line – up for Saturday includes: Brian Botha, Lindey Schouw, GDR (Glenn Fuller, Derryn Fuller & Robert Potgieter), Renate Clench, Claire Harmse, Jack Rabbit Slims, Toby & Norman, Nibs & Guy and Kevin Abraham

Coffee, tea, cooldrinks and boerie rolls will be available courtesy of the Lions of Cape Receife.

The Four Winds Festival always delivers a fantastic, music filled weekend!

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.

That is such a sexist comment about your long hair – how can you slate her after she gave you 2 children. What a sexist narrow minded view point. What have you done to deserve your figure. Certainly not creating miracles. Think twice before showing how biased and bigotted you really are.

      I’m afraid 123, there’s nothing for it but to say – you’re an idiot…

ermm the Longhair never GAVE me two children – we share that responsibility.

To accuse me of being sexist based on one section of a sentence is a bit rich methinks.

Pop around and visit one day and you will see that we share and easily swap what you would say are ‘traditional roles’.

    I double dare you.
