On Saturday 26 October ‘Faye Gatley and the Soloflares’ proved that they do indeed rock the stage when they were chosen as this year’s winners of the Kingfisher FM Do You Rock? competition. The night was a stunning success with over 200 people in attendance enjoying the line-up of thirteen local musicians with different styles and flavours.
Kingfisher FM Do You Rock? is an annual competition for Nelson Mandela Bay musicians with original, positive and uplifting music. This year’s winners won a 4track recording contract with Creative Noise Studio, a music video with Newcity Studios, website with Media Axis, a band app with Nitsec and a photo shoot with Rnoon photography. Amongst all these fantastic tools to boost their career, they will also have the opportunity to playlist their music on Kingfsher FM and get exposure on Bay TV.
Along with ‘Faye Gatley and the Soloflares’, two other musicians had the opportunity to claim awesome prizes, helping them to break through in the music industry. ‘Three for Freedom’ with their tight performance and stage presence took second place, while ‘Michelle Olivier’ showed us her potential and took third place. They have also won recording contracts, websites and media coverage as part of their packages respectively.
Billy Paulsen, who was one of the judges on the night, proclaimed that ‘Fay Gatley and the Soloflares’ have international potential and that it was a unanimous decision that they should walk away the winners on the night. For the next year, they will be brand ambassadors for Kingfisher FM, performing at as many events as possible and taking their music further than Nelson Mandela Bay.
