Fault Report: 03/05/2022 – @NMandelaBaymuni – Ward 7

6 May 2022 By Alan Straton

On 03/05/2022 Robyn Fuller reported a fault in Ward 7 at Newton Park, 133, 2nd avenue.

Fault Details:

Problem reported: Water Leak

Detail:

Good day, I wonder if you would assist me please.

I have whatsapped Brendon (0723403085)from your offices 3 days ago, requesting advice and had no response.

This past Tuesday (26/04/2022) a municipal water pipe burst underground, municipal ref#1493206, outside our residential property in Newton Park, and flooded our entire garage and all its contents. I took videos and photos of everything inside and out.

Municipality came, dug an enormous hole with a digger ruining our entire driveway and part of our lawn in the process. Which they just filled with gravel and left.
I did file this with my insurance and waiting to hear back from them.

However all the contents of our garage, which now has water damage, (wood, tools, cot, bar, table tennis table to name a few are all water logged) as a direct result of the burst pipe and flooding, which won’t be covered by my insurance. Now I’ll be left with all the bills and repairs.

How would I go about claiming damages or replacement costs from the municipality in this regard? Is this possible as the pipe in question was on municipal ground. Right up against our boundary wall.

If you have any advice on how I must move forward. I’d really appreciate it. If you require any further info or want all the photos and videos taken, or to come look for yourself don’t hesitate to call or whatsapp me.

I honestly don’t feel I should be financially liable (and honestly cant afford) for a fault and damages caused by the municipality. I’m a single mom of 2 and have responsibilities and bills of my own to take care of.

Thanks for your time. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Kindest Regards
Robyn Fuller
