Farook – Visual Artist

13 February 2021 By Alan Straton

Farook Mohammed is a Painter based in 181 Jameson Road, Schauderville, Port Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela Bay.

Farook Mohammed says:

I come from a very diverse family background and have family in nearly every part of the world. I was born and raised in the beautiful Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Eastern Cape, South Africa. I’ve traveled around the country and made home of our other noted and beautifully vibrant cities such as Johannesburg and Durban but I’m now back in my hometown. I’m also a collector of rarities and other valuables, an artist by nature and my work is influenced by world history, my own diverse family background which I can trace “spanning continents”, I’m also influenced by my physical surroundings and global events affecting us all (some of my works are a bit controversial and it adds some fun and spice for collectors who buy my works with the aim of making a buck or two or simply because they love and appreciate my creative expression), it’s all very unique, always tells a story and looks like the kind of artwork you’d usually find in an old money home. I’ve taken part in National Art competitions such as the Mzansi Art Gallery Competition 2021, enjoyed the fair game and anonymity added to it. I had put forth three of my works, one of which features a piece I’ve taken from a series of Artworks produced having a similar theme, yet mixed in subject matter, size and medium. To be honest, describing myself in three words “I have fun”. That’s me in a nutshell and I aim to change the world one colorful moment at a time. Nothing much to say about other work/ career paths I’ve followed, been around. Actuarial (Banking and Insurance Sector), FMCG Management, Security Services, Sales, Leisure and Travel, Water Works (Plumbing and Civils) did that for free for the Metro and the list goes on… But I’ve always been a creative. Much love to all, hope you enjoy keeping an eye on my journey.

Farook is also skilled in: Art Facilitation & Workshops, Ceramics, Creative Gardening, Crafts, Drawing, Embroidery Art, Experimental, Graffiti, Heritage, Land Art, Light Painting, Murals, Painting, Printing Art, Resistance Art, Sketching, Street Art, Visual Arts, Watercolor

Chief Cook, Bottle Washer and Broom Mechanic at MyPE
Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
