The 15 April 2014 Eastern Cape Small business networking Breakfast kicked off after a great welcome with coffee and delicious baked delights supplied by Hansons Deli.
The event was hosted at the Sardinia Bay Golf and Wildlife estate, where an exciting development is currently underway in the bay. The Sardinia Bay Mashie golf course is being converted into a 9 hole golf course, with 110 stands available on 100 hectares of land, the houses will be valued in excess of R1,850,000 and will not be smaller than 180 square meters, said Alan Moore from Remax Bay. They are excitedly awaiting the release of game onto the old dairy farm. This is a company which is also giving back – Pete Featonby-Smith, the Developer of the Sardinia Bay Game and Wildlife Estate, will donate R10 000.00 to Samrec, for the sale of each plot.
CPM Services gave away 3 Business health checks. CPM Services offers business rescue, business coaching and legal education. Pat Pattinson stressed the importance of talking to people who know business. Business owners are encouraged to be aware of their bottom line and investment of themselves into their businesses.
The Guest speaker at the event was Ed Gutsche from Edge Financial Services. Gutsche spoke of learning how a businesses focus can increase the client base. Port Elizabeth has a large segment of business which remains untapped and businesses need to look into taking the risk of supplying services in previously untapped areas. The success of Edge Financial can be attributed to recently changing focus, after the disposable income of the local population base was analysed. He challenged businesses to become astute in spotting future trends which could favourably change the course of the business
Gutsche was eager to let the delegates know that part of the success of any business is “position, position, position” – MyPE Ads are hosted on a reputable platform on which to advertise, where a business could select a good “position” in order to be seen. One needs to take care of where to advertise in order to get a good return on ad spend. Edge Financial Services has recently moved their business from Cape Road to 6th Ave, Walmer, a move which has led to greater visibility in an area which has a high concentration of restaurants, making it the only financial services company on the street.
Local business would do well in giving back to the community, every bit helps. Edge Financial services have been involved in a number of such developments, from paving areas in the township to beautifying areas by taking indigenous plants, destined to be destroyed from Coega construction sites – moving and replanting them in Motherwell suburbs and at schools.
Gutsche encouraged businesses to change what they do to suit the market; market your business; never be happy and content and never be afraid to network and work with other companies. The Eastern Cape Small business networking breakfasts are a great place for any business to begin.
