The IIE’s Varsity College Port Elizabeth campus will be giving registered NGO/NPO’s the opportunity to apply for a bursary to partake in a short learning programme at The IIE’s Business School at Varsity College. Interested parties may apply via email to Student Relations Manager Jaci Howell with a motivational letter, copy of their CV and chosen short learning programme. The bursary forms part of The IIE’s Varsity College Corporate Social Investment Initiative aimed at facilitating community based skills development which could enhance skills and ultimately service delivery for the NGO/NPO’s staff.

As part of the ongoing community engagement programme at The IIE’s Varsity College students are given opportunities to engage with the community face to face. On Wednesday, 28 February the campus will be hosting its annual NGO Open Day. “The aim of the initiative is to encourage every student to be involved in a cause and make an impact in 2018″ says Jaci Howell, Student Relations Manager.

The initiative is two-fold and provides NGO/NPO’s with a platform to interact with students and staff, informing them about the services they offer and what there organisation represents. Likewise, students and staff have the opportunity to explore volunteer opportunities close to their hearts which then provides a way to give back positively to the community.

The IIE’s Varsity College VC Cares and VC Social committee members will also be hosting a CANSA sprayathon on campus for students to show their support for those affected by Cancer. VC Cares committee member, Chelsea Harty, The IIE’s Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase 3rd year student says: The NGO Open Day motivates me to help others in need and do my part as a responsible citizen.”. “The NGO Open Day is an eye opener, as it makes one realize there’s so much you can do for those less fortunate. For me giving back to the community is more than just giving back, it’s more of making someone else smile and realize that you have made a difference,” says Yonela Mabi, 3rd year The IIE Bachelor of Arts student.
