E.P. Senior Amateur Golf Results

Sunday 12th June. The EP Senior Amateur golfers took to the Uitenhage Golf Course in the 3rd round of the regional competition. The golf course having battled the elements and big rains and floods in the week leading up to the weekend, was a quagmire of standing water, sand bunkers filled to the brim with water and mushy underfoot from standing water aplenty along the fairways. The golfers were undaunted by the conditions and took to the course in anticipation of a good game. The weather was ideal for golf, sunny and wind free, with temperatures soon climbing into the twenty degree mark. Greens were unaffected and played true, bunkers were knee deep in water and caddies had an awful time recovering balls from bunkers, and the players getting a free drop for the conditions. There was even a local Labrador who loved the conditions and was found to be paddling the bunkers with gay abandon, running form bunker to bunker, and diving into the bunkers. Mosquitoes made their unwelcome appearance and plagued the golfers along the Willow dam end of the course.

All in all 40 odd golfers played an IPS format for division B and C, while division A played medal.

Nearest the pin for hole 4 was won by Joe Wood and Ambrose Paulsen closest on 17.

Division A (handicap up to 9)

  • 1st George Koen ,73 – 4 = 69
  • 2nd Hermanus Potgieter, 76-4 =72
  • 3rd David Konzani , 74-1 = 73
  • Gross winner: Dennis Smith on 72

Division B (handicap from 10-15)

  • 1st Andre Van Aarde, 40 points
  • 2nd Joe de Jager , 36 points
  • 3rd  Brian Wynford,  33 points

Division C (Handicap 16 and higher)

  • 1st Duppie de Lange, 34 points
  • 2nd Vic Adamini, 32 points
  • 3rd Nic van Der Westhuizen, 30 points.
