This morning 28 February 2012 just before 06h00, an accident occurred on Henry Ford Road, Ferguson Township, involving 2 vehicles, one being a municipal vehicle.
SAPS and emergency services were contacted, but the SAPS arrived at approximately 07h30. This after they had been informed that there were serious injuries. (By law, vehicles may not be moved if there are injuries until after police or traffic officials have visited the scene).
Asking the SAPS members what took so long, the answer was that they were busy transporting members to and from work as it was shift change.
Nice work if you can get it! Wouldn’t it be nice if your employer supplied you with transport and you were allowed to get to work after your starting time?
Criminals know what time shift change is and are reported to take advantage of this. It would be interesting to see if crime has actually increased during shift change times.

Take note of how few police actually own a map book or gps. In the real world, if one was motivated to do the job, even if the employer did not provide, you’d invest a hundred bucks in your own street map to ensure that you provide the best possible reaction time. Not in the Not So New SA where mediocrity is the order of the day and the lowest common denominator is the yardstick…
