Dire Water Crisis for SOS Childrens Village

We appreciate that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is making every effort to assist us. However the water supply to the Schauderville area and SOS Children’s Village has been unreliable now for more than a month now.

“Sadly, the water situation has even worsened over the weekend, and there are times when we have no water at all”. While it is conceivable that most residents have friends elsewhere that they can turn to for assistance, we have 110 children and 30 staff members on our premises on a permanent basis that cannot do the same. We operate a pre-school with 75 3-6 year olds that will also be negatively affected by this water crisis. We have taken steps ourselves (by filling up containers with water, when there is water) to have water available for use in our Family houses, but with the water now being totally cut off, we cannot do so any longer.

We appeal to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to consider the situation as urgent and it is negatively impacting on the living conditions of the children in our care: and we urge the Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality to reach a speedy resolution.

We appeal to any members of the public who are willing to assist us during this crisis, to please do so.
