The world renowned Design Indaba Conference, famous for its showcase of innovative and talented out of the box thinkers and designers, will be streamed live from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth between February 25th and 27th. It is brought to the city by Boomtown and its partners, Algoa FM, Axxess ISP, Cadar Printers, The Herald, Hola 4 Events and the Mandela Bay Development Agency.
“With a focus on international thought leadership, the Design Indaba Conference has become one of the world’s leading design events,” says Andrew MacKenzie, Boomtown creative director. “To be able to bring it here to Port Elizabeth for us to explore the ingenious solves for problems and new concepts it showcases, is a privilege.”
Speakers include Santiago Cirugeda an architect from Seville, Spain, whose work focusses on reclaiming urban spaces for public use, contemporary product designer Hella Jongerius and British designer Dominic Wilcox who works between the worlds of art, design, craft and technology, transforming the ordinary into something surprising – such as the world’s first pair of shoes with inbuilt GPS to guide the wearer home. The creative theme for 2015 is Make.Change, a social awareness campaign aimed at featuring people who use creativity to make the world a better place. It focuses on the small changes that impact social upliftment and creates a ripple effect of positive change through the creative application of ‘design activism’.
The simulcast will take place in The Athenaeum’s Ford Little Theatre in the cultural hub of Port Elizabeth.
