The SOS Children’s Village will be hosting its annual High Tea at the Summerstrand Hotel on 21 March 2017. Themed, “Denim and Diamonds”, the event provides an opportunity to raise awareness and much needed funds for SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth.
SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth is situated in Schauderville, and this year celebrates its 25th anniversary as a child care organisation that provides loving homes for children who have lost the permanent care of their parents.
According to Mandy Spies, SOS Children’s Village Corporate Fundraiser, the children’s needs are vast. “Children placed in our care, are all from disadvantaged communities and need special love and care, they are typically orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable.
As an NGO, we rely heavily upon funding from local individuals and businesses, to access the resources desperately needed to help children heal emotionally and physically from abuse and neglect. SOS Children’s Villages offers children a new Mother to love and care for them, a safe family environment in which to play, learn and develop to their full potential and blossom into happy and healthy adults that can contribute positively to society.
Spies explained that school fees and education costs in general were one of the areas needing support, however, in addition to school fees, the learners need to be transported to and from school on a daily basis. “The cost to keep every student at school and ensure that they have all the necessary stationery and uniform requirements is huge. In addition, we also have students at university,” she said.
The annual high tea helps to alleviate at least some of the deficit said Spies. The Denim Drive project will also benefit from the event. At our DENIM RECYCLING PROJECT, unemployed single-parents/care-givers/youth are empowered with skills to grow their own social enterprises, by learing the art of turning unwanted donated denims into recycled pretty and practical household and fashion items.
