Delay for New Driver’s Licence Legislation

1 February 2011 By Alan Straton

Drivers License

The Transport Department has delayed putting into motion the amended National Road Traffic Regulations, which would make it illegal to drive a light motor vehicle with a licence for a heavy vehicle.

According to the regulation, which was to take effect on 1 February, people who obtained a code C, C1, EC or EC1 driving licence would not be allowed to drive a motor vehicle that requires a code B or code EB licence. This was to only apply to new licences issued from 1 February 2011.

The department on Tuesday said it has received submissions from various individuals and organisations and will engage and consult further on the matter.

“The representations received necessitated a review of the amendments. The review process led to a decision by the department to reinstate the status quo with immediate effect, in the best interests of South Africans,” it said.

However, all other amendments, as published in November last year, will still remain in force. – BuaNews

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.

No Mike, not a bad decision, but an proactive one hence those who obtain code C, C1 ec licenses, never been tought how to park properly with a vehicle only require a B or Eb license, resulting in parking with vehicle’s nose first or dublle parking.
