Dear Citizens of NMB, @AtholT, @BantuHolomisa and @MongameliB – in May 2016 we warned you

3 September 2018 By Alan Straton

In the run up to the local elections during 2016 Councilor Mongameli Ellcotte Bobani from the UDM flouted Municipal Bylaws and erected billboards on two bridges in the city. At the time an enquiry directed to the municipality confirmed that the banners were erected without proper authorisation – or, in other words, illegally. Unfortunately we were never able to confirm whether any fines in terms of the illegal banners were raised as per the municipalities Outdoor advertising – Fine schedules.

You may say that the erection of these billboards is a trifling act by an overzealous politician BUT hindsight is a bitch that we should all learn from.

As the old people (me) say:

  • A leopard doesn’t change it’s spots
  • Wolves will eat lambs and
  • Where there is smoke there is fire.

So – the lesson from this is simple: The DA were wrong in courting someone who had already proved himself to be a maverick and viewed himself as above the law by illegally erecting his banners. Then the DA erred by making Bobani Deputy Mayor. Then, in a gobsmacking move, the DA were arrogant enough to think that they could mould and control Bobani and make the coalition government work.

We are all aware of what is written in Isaih 11:6: “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.”

Unfortunately for the remaining coalition partners it appears that the wolf is not ready to live with the lamb, the leopard wants to eat the goat and the little child is crying foul!

Below is the ‘evidence’ / the ‘smoking gun’ that should have been the FIRST warning sign to the DA to stay away from Bobani:

Bobani for Mayor Election Banner

As MyPE said on 29 May 2016: Dear Councillor Bobani, I doubt that it was you in person that swung up onto this bridge to hang your ‘Bobani for Mayor’ banners but I am willing to bet that one of your troops did! Is doing dodgy stuff really going to get people to vote for you? You would do better by going to www.mype.co.za and voting for yourself there.

And, whilst we are talking about our elected officials telling Porky Pies let us remind dear friend Andile Lungisa that his propensity to issue press releases and make utterances in front of cameras that are patently provable as being, and we were being as delicate as possible, so far from the truth as we are from the sun, we invite you to read this little snippet: Dear Andile Lungisa – Challenge Accepted.
