www.MyPE.co.za: Visitors and residents in Nelson Mandela are invited to the biggest New Years party in the province at Wells Estate and Hobie beaches.
The year of 2010 has been a milestone year for Nelson Mandela Bay as a successful host city for the FIFA World Cup, and as it braced the continuing effects of the recession and a persistent drought.
“What better way to celebrate our successes and lighten our struggles than with a huge party with fellow residents and out-of-town visitors,” says organizer, Carmen Malgas of Go Big Events.
Popular rapper, Pro (formerly Pro Kid) is the headline act at Wells Estate this year, while the divine Danny K will perform his decade-long list of hip-hop and R&B hits at Hobie Beach to welcome in 2011.
Hobie beach will also host an eclectic lineup of musicians, dancers and DJs from 17h00 through to the early hours of the morning. Kwaito and rap music lovers will enjoy the performances of local artists SobZ, Siya, Shaido and the Moja Dancers; while pop, rock and contemporary sounds will be provided by Shoelace, Upper Echelons, True Sight Music and Carieka.
Before the countdown to the New Year and the world-class fireworks display, audiences will be entertained by the indomitable Danny K, who needs no introduction with a pop and hip-hop career spanning over a decade and huge hits including “Hurts so Bad”, “You don’t know my Name” and “Senorita”. Other late night acts include the province’s top hip-hop dance crew, Dejavu, recent winners of the East Cape Talent competition, and local favourite performer, Tururu.
The Wells Estate bash has a back-to-back lineup of top local DJs, including DJs Killer, Qbase, Sham the Funk, Svige and Cebi, right up until Pro hits the stage after midnight. Pro has been described as the country’s best vernacular rapper, proudly representing kasi (township life) in his rhymes. His latest album, Snakes and Ladders, has sold over 16,000 copies.
The organizers will ensure the public’s safety as far as possible with security, lifeguards, paramedics and police on hand to respond to any crisis.
“We would also like to encourage the public to exercise common sense during the silly season, such as avoiding driving or swimming while intoxicated,” says Greg Moses of Go Big.
The successful Lost Kids campaign will again work to reunite lost children with their caregivers by providing armbands with contact details for children to wear.
