Cost Effective Illumination for Children’s Village

14 June 2012 By Alan Straton

On Friday 1 June, Eveready donated ESL lamps to the SOS Children’s Village in Port Elizabeth. They have been supporting the SOS Children’s Village for the past 12 years and decided to combine their Corporate Social Investment initiative with their environmental practices. The SOS Children’s Home Village is made up of 14 family homes, two youth houses and an SOS Kindergarten.

“Although we currently support one of the family homes with an annual grant, we decided to equip the entire Port Elizabeth village with ESL’s in the hope that we could make a small difference in their lives and in turn in the environment,” said Vivienne Bendrau, National Business Manager – Lighting at Eveready South Africa.

With an increasing need for environmentally friendly products and as a strategic business development Eveready expanded its business to include an extensive lighting range and has continued to grow and develop the range. This range includes the Energy Saving Lamp (ESL) product range which incorporates 26 variants, including fluorescent tube lights and halogen down lighters. Eveready not only shifted their product development to include environmentally friendly products, but have invested in environmentally friendly practices within their manufacturing processes in order to lower the business’ carbon footprint.

“We’ve realised the importance of combining all our efforts from our environmental products to our manufacturing processes and our business practices in general ensuring that we take a holistic approach to our environmental consciousness and use opportunities to spread it into our communities,” added Bendrau.
