CV23, HotelPlanner.com, is diverting to Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in order to drop off round the world crew member, Greg Adams, 59, to enable medical assessment and treatment following a fall below deck resulting in a potential fractured arm as well as a minor cut on his head. Although this medevac is necessary, it is not an emergency. Greg’s health and well-being take priority.
Skipper Conall Morrison and the onboard medic crew have been in constant contact with ClipperTelemed+ by PRAXES Medical, our remote support physicians and the Clipper Race office for advice.
At present, HotelPlanner.com is just over 350 nautical miles away from Port Elizabeth and is expected to arrive during the early hours of Sunday morning.

It would appear that Port Elizabeth is a regular stopover for Clipper Sailors as on 7 November 2013 Mission Performance crew member, David Griffin was casualty evacuated after a cleat pierced his right leg.
David was admitted to Greenacres Hospital and visited by local Algoa Bay Yacht members who kept his spirits up with reading material and conversation. Rumours that he has received frothy Fanta Browns are still circulating.

A second Clipper Yacht Race crew member was also casualty evacuated to Port Elizabeth 1 day later.
Injured British yachtswoman, Michelle Porter, was evacuated by the Port Elizabeth NSRI on 8 November 2013, during the Cape Town Australia leg of the Clipper round-the-world race after the boat she was crewing on, Derry ~ Londonderry ~ Doire, was struck by ‘monumental’ wave.

It was Michelle Porter’s birthday when Derry was caught in the storm and she was left clinging on to safety rails after he boat was struck by a wave. It was feared she may have broken her arm. It’s certainly a birthday she won’t soon forget as just when she should have been blowing out the candles on her cake, she was clinging on for dear life after the yacht was struck.
The boat was caught in hurricane-force gusts off the coast of South Africa as she and fellow crew took part in the Clipper round-the-world race. Ms Porter, from London, was evacuated to a hospital in Port Elizabeth on Friday night – the day she turned 37.
With the organizers looking to utilize Port Elizabeth as a stopover port during the 2019 race around the world one would think that the present crew members have now voted for Algoa Bay as their preferred stopover!
