Christmas will be coming early for ten NGO’s in Nelson Mandela Bay as the Emfuleni Eastern Cape Community Development Trust (EECCDT) hands over roughly R815 000.00 on Thursday 22 March 2012. The Trust has over the past 3 years already distributed in excess of R2.1 million towards education and to community based organisations.

The EECCDT was established in 1998 and the primary aim and objective for which the Trust was constituted is to create a fund from which both the capital and income will be utilized for the benefit, welfare, maintenance, improvement and development of any community/person within the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

Dividends received from Zonwabise Resort Holdings, the BEE partner of the Boardwalk Casino & Entertainment World, of which the EECCDT is a shareholder, and any other income received are used to fund deserving projects which are identified by the Trustees in their sole discretion.

“We are very much excited about the annual cheque handover to the various NGO’s in the Bay and we are fortunate to be in a position to be able to practice the spirit of Ubuntu. There are many charities and those that are less fortunate in Nelson Mandela Bay and although we cannot donate to every NGO in the city, one has to start somewhere and donate somehow with your time, money or items no matter how little or small, it goes a long way to someone that didn’t have” said EECCDT Chairperson, MK Rubushe.

Emfuleni Resorts chairperson, Mrs Bongi Siwisa, is extremely excited about making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate that will be receiving these funds. “I have a very special place in my heart for all the organizations we support as we have not only provided them with funds to fulfill their daily needs, but created a platform of hope for the future. We strive to assist them through funding due to their continuous charisma shown to their respective communities.”

The following NGO’s will be receiving donations on Thursday:

  • Langa, KwaNobuhle Self Help and resources Exchange: R90, 000
  • Vezokuhle Youth development Project: R90, 000
  • Lithemba HIV/AIDS Support Group: R135, 000
  • Jongilanga Training Development Centre: R120, 000
  • Nelson Mandela Metro People With Physical Disabilities: R80, 000
  • Nonzame Home Based Community Centre: R60, 000
  • Siqaqambe Health and Wellness Initiative: R60, 000
  • St Francis Hospice: R60, 000
  • Phaphamani Rape Crisis Centre: R60, 000
  • St John’s Centre of Concern: R60, 000
