IRONMAN South Africa is excited to announce the amended course for the 15th edition of the Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship taking place on 7 April 2019 in Nelson Mandela Bay. The swim course remains the same with the 3.8km swim taking place at Hobie Beach. Outstanding Half Marathon Time for Ironman World Champion

The current world record for the half marathon is 58:23 minutes for men, set by Eritrea's Zersenay Tadese on 21 March 2010 at the Lisbon Half Marathon. In Port Elizabeth today - AFTER a 1.9 kilometre swim AND 90 kilometre bike ride - Jan Frodeno from Germany ran the 21.1 kilometre half marathon in 66:33 minutes to be crowned the 2018 Isuzu Ironman World Champion. Thembile Nxele, Siyabulela Mpengesi and Peter Gatangi made history in January and June this year by being the only previously disadvantaged triathletes to have made the cut to race the Ironman 70.3 world championship on merit alone.
