The number of people who died on South African roads during the festive season has decreased by 10% when compared to the previous period. The MBDA has advised that the Baakens pedestrian bridge contractor got received a permit to transport the Baakens River Valley steel bridge over the next three days: 4 to 8 July 2019, between 9.00am to 15.00pm from Uitenhage to Baakens Valley. The preliminary mid-festive season report shows that road fatalities have increased in all provinces, except for Gauteng, which has recorded a 10% decrease. A Nelson Mandela Bay traffic officer has been sentenced to five years in prison after accepting a R400 bribe. According to media reports, Vuyani Totoyi was found guilty of corruption and sentenced to jail in the Port Elizabeth Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.
