Caring for Gamble

Gamble Care Packages
Caring for Gamble
On Wednesday, 23 August 2017, Afri-Save Director, Munir Jeeva, together with members of the local South African Police Service and the headmistress, Mrs Radcliffe, attended a special assembly at Gamble Street School in Uitenhage. Gamble Street Secondary School was the scene of a tragic hostel fire which gutted the lodgings in which girls at the school were displaced.

A few days earlier, Colonel Goeda of the SAPS, stretched out a helping hand to assist the school by humbly approaching Afri-Save Cash & Carry for a donation to hopefully ease the pain, suffering and trauma that the students endured due to the blaze.

Colonel Goeda was met by a very solemn Munir Jeeva who, after hearing the heartbreaking story, made it his personal mission to assist the SAPS as well as Gamble Street High School. Special care packages were put together by Afri-Save staff for the students affected by the fire.

Everyone was met by cheering in the Gamble Street school hall as the elated students saw the visitors enter. Once the cheering calmed, speeches were made beginning with Colonel Goeda, who took it upon himself to personally thank Munir Jeeva for his kindness and heartfelt generosity.

Colonel Goeda explicitly thanked not only Munir Jeeva but the entire Jeeva family for their ongoing efforts and charitable actions they have done for the local community over a large number of years.

Mr Jeeva then went on to reinforce his commitment to helping and assisting wherever he could and the plight of learners in a situation such as Gamble Street should not hold them back from realising their own potential. He went on to encourage the learners to push their limits and discover who they truly are by educating themselves and building incredible futures.

The entire hall roared with applause as the students clapped showing their thankfulness through the applause with not a sad face in the room. The speeches were followed by the handover or the parcels provided by Afri-Save and one final thank you from the school’s principal Mrs Radcliffe to Mr Jeeva and the SAPS.
