Why do we as tax and ratepayers allow our municipalities and government to ride on our coat tails?
Watch as political parties in national and local government use the generic term ‘government’ when they are trying to look good in front of the electorate whilst flashing our cash in the name of ‘service delivery’ or some such feel good distribution of our hard earned cash.
An example of what irks me is the continual promotion of this disconnect when our politically elected masters say things like; ” The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality hands over this and that,” why can we not be entirely truthful and rather say; “The ratepayers of Nelson Mandela Bay hand over this and that”?
When there is potential for political harm to the mouthpiece then they slip back into referring to us as tax or ratepayers as if we are somehow attached like a smelly doo doo to their shoes!
