A comparison between the movements in April 2014 and April 2015 indicates that the volume of departures decreased for both South African residents and foreign travellers, according to the latest data released by Stats SA on Monday.

In April 2015 there were 1 169 290 foreign arrivals to South Africa, according to the latest data released by Stats SA on Monday.
A comparison between the movements in March 2015 and April 2015 indicates that the volume of arrivals and departures for South African residents increased, but decreased for foreign travellers.
The volume of travellers in transit decreased for both South African residents and foreign travellers.
The arrivals were made up of 84 125 non-visitors and 1 085 165 visitors.
The visitors consist of 365 608 same-day visitors and 719 557 overnight visitors (tourists).
The breakdown of the tourists by region is as follows: 144 771 from overseas; 560 389 from the SADC countries; 13 468 from “other” African countries.
The country of residence of 929 tourists was classified as unspecified.
In April 2015, road transport was the most common mode of travel used by 2 422 683 (73.6%) out of the 3 291 455 travellers.
The majority of tourists, 685 865 (95.3%), were in South Africa for holiday compared to 26 203 (3.6%) and 7 489 (1.0%) who were in South Africa for business and for study purposes respectively.
