It would appear as if President Jacob Zuma and the National Executive Committee of the ANC have given the Nelson Mandela Bay a ceremonial mayor.
The 81-year-old Ben Fihla was yesterday in Cape Town to attend a meeting in parliament.
It is very disappointing that our executive mayor deems this more important than to attend to the numerous challenges facing our metro.
The residents of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro have, once again, been treated with flagrant disrespect by the ruling party in this metro.
It is now very clear that the Deputy Executive Mayor, Councillor Chippa Ngcolomba is indeed the political leader in our council and we all know how closely aligned he is to Nceba Faku.
With the recent announcement of the mayoral committee and the new ANC councillors that have been proposed for the Municipal Public Accounts Committee, it is very clear that Faku’s instructions are now being implemented.
Those councillors who were aligned to ex mayor Wayile have now clearly been sidelined irrespective of performance.
It is indeed sad to see that Councillor Tontsi who did a sterling job of chairing the MPAC has now been discarded.
So we can all expect that our municipal administration will be further destabilised as Councillor Chippa Ngcolomba implements Faku’s instructions and scarce resources are wasted.
The metro residents deserve a better leadership. A leadership that serves the people rather than themselves.
The time has come for all in this metro to see through the mask of the ANC. The DA has its door open for everyone who believes in better leadership and good service delivery to all.
