ANC + BRICS’ Entanglement

11 April 2023 By Alan Straton

Dear Editor

Snobs, Status-conscious people and Shallow-minded individuals are practically synonyms as they cannot be divorced from one another as they are face-value triplets. Talking about economic and political divorce, South Africa, read the ANC Head Honchos, would be better off without the BRICS Concoction and its cumbersome comradeship.

For starters, the Brazil, Russia, India, China + South Africa [BRICS] countries being lumped together as a result of some economist in New York that absent-mindedly coined the BRIC (the S for South Africa being added later on) acronym is a great case study in the Status-consciousness of our politicians; let alone the location of the said countries being geographically schizophrenic as their proximity to each doesn’t make much cost-effective sense.

The pattern that South Africa and Brazil are bridesmaids, with Russia and China being the bride and bridegroom interchangeably, leaving India as the minister of ceremonies doesn’t gel well for an economic symbiosis. The greatest lessons our shallow-minded politicians could have learned from Russia, is the one advocated by the 1990 Nobel Prize winner and the very last USSR leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, and those concepts are Glasnost [openness and transparency in governmental matters] + Perestroika [restructuring of the economic and political system], as opposed to the Oligarchy that was and still championed by the narcissistic Vladimir Putin who was so intimidated by a former oligarch, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, for not being a Money, Status and/or Materialism worshipper that he had to flee Russia and being an exiled expatriate in Switzerland.

The sooner South Africa extricates itself from the BRICS Comedy-Of-Errors, the better for our very own national security; at the very least.

Regards
