Do you sense the hand of a higher power here? On the day that the new restrictions are scheduled to go into operation all of our dams are reported as 100% full. Good news for beleagured citizens I am sure.
Major Storage Dams supplying the Metro (levels as at 1 August 2011) Capacity – Volume of water:
- Kouga: 100% – 125 910 Ml
- Churchill: 100% – 35 240
- Impofu: 100% – 105 757
- Loerie: 100% – 3 026
- Groendal: 100% – 11 640
- Average all: 100 % of total combined capacity – 281 573 Ml.
The Impofu started overflowing last night and is currently running 30 mm over the side spillway.
Questions:
- How long will it take for the water restrictions to be lifted now?
- Will the municipality now, as a matter of urgency attend to the anomalies with regards to the amount of water extracted from the dams as opposed to the amount of usage billed? With some estimates of water loss from dam to meter as high as 50% it would be expedient of our City Fathers to work hard at dropping that number forthwith to a more acceptable loss before they once again demand that the citizens save water. Was it not said in the Bible; “Take the DAM out of your own eye before you take the BATH WATER out of the Water Consumers!”
Maybe the Councillors who make disparaging remarks about selfish water consumers who “just want to fill their swimming pools” will now make a concerted effort to fix the DAMN LEAKS that occur BEFORE the water hits our meters.
