Absa takes Strava campaign to the next level

3 April 2023 By Alan Straton

Gqeberha, 27 March 2023 – The proudly African bank, Absa, announced its four-year partnership with the Run Your City series of events in 2021 with a bold goal to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. As part of the bank’s strategic intent to do more for the communities in which they operate, Absa launched a campaign titled Together we do more, Siyabangena, to encourage Absa colleagues, customers and community members to be an active force for good and raise funds via the Strava community to donate towards community upliftment. For every 1km run/walked by a Team Absa member on Strava, the bank donates R1 to make a difference in the community.

This year, Absa is taking the campaign to the next level by introducing the running billboard – a fun and interactive activation that encourages participants to run/walk and log as many kilometres as they can on the Team Absa Walk Run Strava community. To join the force for good movement and contribute, it’s as easy as downloading the Strava App, joining Team Absa Walk Run and lacing up – whether it is to hop on the running billboard while it is in Gqeberha or simply going for a walk/run around the block, at the gym. etc. Absa colleagues, customers and community members are encouraged to join Team Absa Walk/Run and track their kilometres every time that they walk or run to create a greater impact.

Speaking about the campaign and the billboard, Absa’s Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Sydney Mbhele, says, “We are excited to kick off the Absa Run Your City 10k series in Gqeberha, as one of the two extended cities to host the race. Part of our strategy is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and we believe that with the launch of the running billboard, our customers, colleagues and the greater community will come together and make a positive impact in society by simply tracking their kilometres.”

“People are encouraged to download the Strava App and sign up under Team Absa Run/Walk. We believe in the power of a united community and what we can achieve when we are working towards a common goal. We’ve seen how much these funds have assisted our communities in the past and the impact that they have. We hope that this year we’ll have more runners participating so that we can assist communities in need and continue being an active force for good,” Mbhele continues.

To join in the fun activity and clock your kilometres, visit the running billboard at:

  • Boardwalk Mall from Monday, 27 March to Saturday, 1 April, 09:00 to 18:00
  • Greenacres Shopping Centre on Thursday, 30 March from 12:00 to 15:00
