A #RaceFreeMonth release we would like to see

February has been declared Race Free Month and every day in February we at MyPE will be combating the subtle racist nuances that hamper our thinking, cloud our judgement, restrict our development and increase the tension in South Africa.

A recent press release from the SA Government began: Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has called on South Africans from all walks of life to unite and confront racism.

We would like to see the following words added to the first sentence above; “… by signing the pledge on www.RaceFreeMonth.co.za.“

He reiterated President Jacob Zuma’s call on Thursday when he chaired the Governance and Administration Cluster briefing in Cape Town.

“We urge the country to get involved in dialogues as part of efforts to achieve national unity, social cohesion and the eradication of racism.

“Our conversations and dialogues will culminate in Human Rights Day, on 21 March 2016, which will be commemorated as the national day against racism,” said the Minister.

Minister Gigaba appealed to all citizens to join hands in translating the rights and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution into reality.

“Together, let us continue to embrace and promote constitutional rights, values and use them to move our country forward,” he said.

The year 2016 marks 20 years since former President Nelson Mandela signed the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996 into law.

Minister Gigaba said this important framework contains South Africa’s aspiration for a non-sexist, non-racial, democratic and prosperous South Africa that government strives to inculcate in society. – SAnews.gov.za
