A Message to this mornings Ford Ranger Road Hog

13 September 2023 By Alan Straton

This morning at the intersection of Westbourne and Eastbourne roads at around 7:40 am I had the unhappy experience of being cut off, as the robots turned green, by a hooting waving mad driver in a White Ford Ranger bakkie, who had just cut off the other vehicle behind me as well.

He narrowly missed my vehicle as he squeezed onto Buckingham Road showing no regard for fellow drivers or oncoming traffic.

I calmly followed him along Buckingham Road as he proceed to hoot and try to push the car in front of him to the side of the road as well (I was following the person in front of him after rescuing her from a flat battery!).

Anyway my chance came to chat to this miscreant as he pulled up onto the pavement outside the Kids World Daycare at 4 Gipson Road, Mount Croix.

When I pulled up next to him, he moved forward so I repeated, wound down my passenger side window and encouraged him to do the same. Apparently him passing me recklessly was my fault as I was “not driving with any urgency”. I pointed out to him that he was certainly not setting a good example for his children along with putting them in danger and left him with the words; “fucking idiot” ringing in his ears.

As I drove away I was most gratified to see one more of his ‘victims’ pull up alongside him and remonstrate with him too.

And that made me think of this:

“You think as long as something happens to other people that it doesn’t concern you, it’s none of your business. I’m telling you, if you don’t say anything today and don’t bring about justice, then one day you too will experience injustice and no one will stand before you. Justice lives through us all. We have to fight for it.”
