The creator-owner, Mark Rose-Christie, of the Mystery Ghost Bus Tours will perform his last tour ever in Port Elizabeth, this Saturday, 22 December.
Now Mark has a history of ‘battling’ with the Port Elizabeth media – read: “only wanting free publicity and moaning, crying and deriding when the amount of free publicity that the gets is not enough or any at all”. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar, Mark!
I wonder if Mark has a bit of a death wish as all his ‘press releases’ contain some sort of note as you see below:
Although mayors like John Veira et al. have praised Rose-Christie for being “an ambassador for Port Elizabeth” given the many pioneering productions he has launched in the city over several decades, Rose-Christie is dismayed at the general lack of publicity by the media over 12 long years, for his and other producers’ productions, which he says leaves the public and holiday-makers the poorer for it – and at a mere 58 seats for any of the PE Mystery Ghost Bus tours, they often runs at a loss. Rose-Christie says he has tired of the long and un-ending battle with the Eastern Cape media on behalf of his and other producers’ shows, and doesn’t believe that those media who are keen to support their own public help much, because the majority of the media do not seem to express concern for the public who support them in return. He says PE is well-known for this general malaise by the media, and he remains disappointed as he says PE has loads of great talent and highly professional home-grown shows. As a result Rose-Christie is having second thoughts of a country theatre for PE, unless, like it is the case for other PE shows too, he can rely on social media like Facebook, given the PE media problems.
<open sarcastic font>You certainly make me want to rush out and support you, Mark</close sarcastic font>.
Although …. this may actually be the best advertising you get out of any Port Elizabeth based media as a little controversy always helps!
