67 Minutes for children

For a small group of local businesses, Mandela Day kicked off on Wednesday 17 July.

With contributions from Havilah Designer Jewellers; Royalston Exclusive Residential Estate; Genesis Civils and Remax Bay, Tracey Eke of Royalston spent her first 67 minutes for Mandela shopping for party food as well as various items on the needs list of Nelson Mandela Bay NPO, Thandu’sana.

Thandu’sana, based in Newton Park, is a safe haven for abandoned and/or abused babies aged newborn to three years.

Because Mandela, himself is known to have a real heart for the children, and because every child deserves happiness and smiles as much as the next, this small group of businesses got together to spend their 67 minutes with the children of Thandu’sana.

Thursday 18 July saw representatives from these four businesses laughing and playing with the children of Thandu’sana and presenting each child with a hotdog, packet of chips a cup cake, and a small special gift.

The remainder of funds donated by the four businesses was spent on formula, nappies, wet-wipes, and a twin pram for the charity and handed over to House Mother, Lorna Lamerton, who gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of the charity.

Havilah; Royalston; Genesis and Remax Bay were honoured to spend their 67 minutes with such joyful children and hope to make every Mandela Day bigger and better than the last.
