2010 Steers Marina Mile

By

www.MyPE.co.za: Top Eastern Province swimmers, Jessica Roux and Christopher van de Sande, have ended the 2010 year on a high note with a handful of wins at the Steers Marina Mile festival at Marina Martinique on Wednesday and Thursday morning. Roux won the 10km, double mile and Mile swims at the festival cementing her position as the Eastern Provinces top open water swimmer whilst van de Sande took gold in the Men’s 10km and Mile events. On Wednesday Rebecca Newman and Brenton Williams won the regions first every competitive 25km swim.

The Mile events were held in very windy conditions which resulted in choppy conditions at the picturesque marina. Van de Sande was followed home by Jason Jones and Michael Marais whilst Jamie-Lee Schlemmer and Robyn Charter placed 2nd and 3rd in the Ladies race. In the double mile event, Wayne Jones won the Men’s race from brother Jason and Michael Marais whilst Jamie-Lee Schlemmer placed 2nd and Gauteng’s Nosipho Stiglmayr grabbed the bronze.
