On 15 March 2017 at about 20:30 an abduction took place at Koyana Street, Kwazakele. A 48-year-old male, who is a Tavern owner in Motherwell and living in Zwide, was having a braai at a house in Koyana Street, when four males forced him into a red minibus and sped off. By 21:00 a ransom amount was demanded from his wife by the suspects. She paid the money in at 09:00 on the following morning as instructed, but they then demanded more money.
She then went to the Kwazakele Police Station at 14:30 to report what had happened. By 16:15 the 48-year-old victim was found on the Perseverance Road, Perseverance, severely assaulted. He was taken to Uitenhage Provincial Hospital where he was admitted for medical treatment.
