Join Port Elizabeth and MyPE in congratulating Mover and Shaker, Yamkela Ntolo from NMMU:
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University law masters student Yamkela Ntolo has been offered an internship at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Hamburg, Germany.
The internship follows news of NMMU’s new research chair in Law of the sea and Development in Africa and that the institution has earmarked to offer maritime studies in the future.
ITLOS is an independent judicial body established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea which sits in Hamburg, Germany.
The Tribunal adjudicates disputes arising out of the interpretation and application of the Convention. Every year the Tribunal offers 20 people, students or government officials an opportunity to work as interns.
The internship programme runs for three months and Yamkela will be an intern at the legal office from 1 October to 23 December 2013. Under supervision, he will carry out assignments for the members of the Tribunal and produce a research paper.
“Exposure to this environment will be a rewarding academic experience for me as I am currently an LLM Public Law research student with my dissertation topic on maritime legal developments in Africa (1994-2014),” he says.
