Operation Fiela was in full swing in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage this week when over 700 litres of illegal liquor concoctions were destroyed, confiscated from 22 houses brewing and selling the substance. During this operation a licenced tavern was issued with a compliance notice for selling liquor before the prescribed trading hours.

This success follows last weekend’s record breaking 171 arrests of suspects in the Uitenhage Cluster on charges ranging from serious crimes to traffic offences.

In some of these liquor concoctions seized, dead cockroaches, flies and other insects were discovered.

The police in the Uitenhage Cluster are ready to reclaim the streets from the criminal element. The intensity of police operations is going to be felt in various areas of the Uitenhage Cluster on a daily basis and residents are going to witness increased police visibility.

The SAPS Cluster management urges community members to report taverns that are not complying with liquor trading hours. This festive season parents are also requested to report taverns that are selling liquor to children under the legal age (18 years).

These operations focusing on all liquor outlets are continuing.
