Nelson Mandela Bay could soon be the home of a new Guinness World Record – The 1000 Spot Challenge. Get Steve, a new Port Elizabeth media and PR solutions company, will stage this record attempt by the end of 2013. By doing so, they will be looking to make 1000 businesses famous and raise money for local charities, all while bringing a world record to Port Elizabeth.
The attempt is set for a 10-day period in December leading up to Christmas. Material will be edited into a commercial and uploaded to YouTube, where the public will be invited to partake by voting for their favorite commercials and companies.
Rotary International is committed to improving the quality of life of local communities through educational and health projects. The Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth West will be collecting the R1000 advert fee and managing the finances of this project, ensuring that proceeds go where they will be effective. This Rotary Club is involved in local charities such as Missionvale Care Center, Lake Farm, Maranatha Street Workers Trust, Bob Richards Sundays River Trash Bash, and East Cape Autism, and hosts the Medieval Fayre and Tree of Joy each year, too.
At the “1000 Spot Challenge” business launch, Bay TV stepped forward as the Media partner and encouraged businesses to get involved early, by making free advertising space available to the video with the most views. This is where early participants have the opportunity for extra exposure. Lungile Nduvane, Bay TV’s Assistant Station Manager stated, “There is an opportunity to showcase the effectiveness of targeting a local TV audience as well as their support for local business and charity. The 1000 Spot Challenge is effectively a representation of our motto, “Eyakho Nawe”, meaning Its Also Yours”.
The world record attempt will see veteran media man, Malcolm Ramsay, manipulating TV-ready building blocks to create 1 000, thirty second adverts. Once the commercials have met the sponsor’s approval they will be uploaded to YouTube. Malcolm commented, “It will be the toughest edit session of my career, it is anticipated that it will take me 10 days to do what the rest of the planet does in 5 seconds on YouTube.”
Get Steve will ensure that the social media sites Facebook, Twitter and Google Circles are abuzz with the sponsors TV ads. Steven Lancaster added “Advertising is not always about complexity. It is about creativity, being memorable and creating a reaction. If you have a good idea, we can put it together for you.”
