World Record Breaking Attempt

You are invited to see history being made in Nelson Mandela Bay at the NU 2 Stadium on Saturday the 11th April 2015.

The World Record that will be attempted is longest human chain to pass a hula hoop. The time of the first record attempt is 7am and the second attempt starts at 9am.

The aim is to form a human chain and pass the hula hoop around the circle whilst everyone is still holding hands. The objective of this event is to promote active lifestyle and sportsmanship among Nelson Mandela Bay residents.

The Current World Record is 502 people and our target is at least 600 school children and our City Council of another 120 will see us setting a great new record in honour of Tata Mandela.

If the event is completed successfully each participant will receive a Certificate of Successful Participation in a World Record Event and a commemorative medal.

The City of Champions (CoC) is a unique concept developed by Impact Leisure Investments (Pty) Ltd, which is designed to empower a nominated city to compete nationally and internationally for the title, “City of Champions”.

Through breaking of existing world records and setting of new world records multiple exercises shall be used, which are designed to encourage competition in a specific field, to achieve excellence at individual, social and corporate levels.

The events will include some sporting contests, corporate services, product manufacturing competitions, etc. Through the CoC events, participants from various social strata, all race groups, young and old, able-bodied and people with disability will all have the opportunity to participate in the true Mandela spirit of unity and nation-building.

The Nelson Mandela Bay City Council has heartily embraced this concept and appointed City of Champions to carry this project out on their behalf.
