Corporates and schools in Nelson Mandela Bay have a golden opportunity to engage in some team-building when the SPAR Women’s Challenge takes place in Port Elizabeth on March 21.

The 27th edition, which consists of 10km and 5km races, will be the first in the six-leg national Grand Prix Series and SPAR Eastern Cape promotions and events manager Alan Stapleton has urged social runners to join in a day of female camaraderie.

One of the easiest ways of doing this is by creating a bulk entry, an option which has been enthusiastically embraced by corporates and schools over the years.

“We have seen that companies or schools want to create their own teams for the races and it is a great way to celebrate the females in your staff or school,” said Stapleton.

“Often it is much more fun to do events such as this in a large group, especially if you are not a regular runner, and it is a wonderful team-building opportunity.

“It also makes the logistics of the entry process simpler to manage because just one person handles the bulk entry and then fetches the information needed from registration.”

He said the popularity of the option meant they were looking forward to renewed interest from these parties this time round.

To encourage the use of this option, there are a number of incentives on offer.

The high school with the most participants will receive a laptop while the primary school and company with the most entries will receive R2 500 each. The teacher who organises the most entries will pocket an incentive of R1 200.

In addition, the first 2 000 entries online will receive Women’s Challenge peaks.

The online option is the preferred method for entering, but schools and companies can also request a spreadsheet entry form from the Zsports race office, which will be uploaded by the race organisers.

To qualify for the bulk entry, companies and schools will have to put down a minimum of 10 entries, but they can add to that in the period before the event.

Anyone interested in making use of the bulk entry option should note that entries close on March 15.

The start and finish venue will again be at Pollok Beach in Summerstrand and the routes will take runners through the suburb’s streets.

Children under nine can take part in the 5km race if accompanied by an adult. Otherwise the age restrictions for the 5km and 10km events are nine and 14 years respectively.
