Employees at Ford’s Silverton Assembly Plant as well as the Struandale Engine Plant have donated clothing and blankets to charities in Pretoria and Port Elizabeth as the final leg of Ford’s annual Winter Drive campaign.
Over the past two months, employees lobbied together and donated clothing, blankets, hats and scarfs for distribution to poor communities. This has culminated in the delivery of two Ranger-loads of goods to the Re-Bafenyi Victim Empowerment Centre based in Atteridgeville, Pretoria as well as the St Vincent De Paul Holy Name Church in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth.
Re-Bafenyi provides a temporary shelter for women and children from violent situations. In addition to this they offer psychological, emotional and trauma counselling services, post exposure prophylactic services for rape victims and first aid or physical care for abused women and children.
The St Vincent De Paul Holy Name Church, under the direction of Fr Thembalethu Mana, and its St Vincent Central Council supports 21 low-income and impoverished families from the local community with monthly food parcels, as well as donations of clothing, household items and essential school materials.
“There is a great need for support within our community, and we rely extensively on donations to help those faced with poverty, both within the parish and amongst those who are not parish members,” says Fr Mana.
“On behalf of St Vincent De Paul Holy Name Church and the New Brighton community, I extend my sincere gratitude to Ford and its employees for the donation of the clothing and blankets. These will greatly assist the families in need.”
“Ford has a wide range of community support initiatives, and we actively encourage our employees to participate in local projects to assist those living in less fortunate circumstances,” says Satya Banda, Plant Manager of the Struandale Engine Plant.
“We commend Re-Bafenyi and the St Vincent parish for the exceptional work they are doing to improve the lives of these desperate families.”
