On 23/05/2019 Mark pledged support for Nelson Mandela Bay’s bid to host the 2021 stopover for The Ocean Race.
Mark Dawson says:
Port Elizabeth has arguably some of the best sailing waters in the world. Splitting the middle between Cape Town and Durban, Port Elizabeth is the best location to make this event a national one for the rainbow nation. After a period of decline there is a push to make this city a vibrant sailing city, with a firm commitment from local councils to make this the water sport capital of South Africa. NMU is becoming renowned as a leader in Ocean Sciences, the Ocean Race and NMU can highlight current research and encourage a growth in ocean based pollution and environmental awareness. An international event like this in our fantastic city can only contribute to our assertion that sailing is for everybody

Mark would like to assist as he is:
Heavily involved in sailing in Port Elizabeth from grass roots, University sailing training, volunteer at NSRI. To be involved in the Ocean Race in as many ways possible
