Why I Changed my ‘Voting Method’

21 October 2021 By Alan Straton

From the day I started voting (after milking the cows at 4:00 am and walking through the snow to catch an Ox-Cart) people used to ask me who I was voting for and my stock answer was always; “For the strongest opposition!” You are welcome PFP and DA – not that I expect you to thank me as my fellow tax and ratepayers have generously compensated you for being the official opposition for many years now.

BUT

My revelation was as simple as this: I realised one day that by continually voting for the strongest opposition I was PART of the problem as I was bolstering the idea of not taking control of my life and society by ‘relying’ on a strong opposition to keep the Government in power in check.

We need to face facts – our reliance on the strongest opposition to keep a greedy government in check has FAILED. The government in power – Local, National and Provincial – has NOT been kept in check by the strongest opposition and that sorry state of affairs has left us in the KAK.

So what to do?

If we want to fix this patently unfair system and greedy monolithic corrupt machine that we created then we need to do a simple but very hard thing: We need to become the strongest opposition – every man, woman and child needs to keep eyes on whomever comes into power and make sure that they do the right thing every day for the people of Nelson Mandela Bay, the people of the Eastern Cape and the people of South Africa.

As always I am not going to ask you to vote for me in Ward 7 or for the Abantu Integrity MOVEMENT but JUST ask you to vote AND then to keep a watchful eye on your local representative to ensure that you get the service that you deserve.
