What is What What?

The first show that we saw at the Grahamstown Festival this Wednesday was Standard Bank Ovation Award Winner for Comedy 2011 & 2012, Rob van Vuuren’s What What.

Now we saw Rob in Port Elizabeth last year and the Mother/Granny came along for the ride – at that time I could feel her cringe every time a blasphemous utterance and that dreaded four letter word beginning with a P and rhyming with cat spewed forth from the mouth of a comedian angry with his futile attempts at having a child.

Moving on from Rob’s last show it is a delight to say that I only counted one P word, no rages against organised religion and a laugh every 15 seconds. One gets the impression that Rob has really benefited from being blessed with child and is highly comfortable in declaring that LOVE is the ultimate what what.

Go and see the show – the reason for the torch as the only prop front and centre becomes apparent and is an outstanding tribute to love.

Rob is the epitome of a man who has slaved at his craft and succeeded, as this is his 19th year at the Grahamstown Arts Festival.
