Surviving four days of golf and a smorgasbord of off-course entertainment will be the name of the game when the Lexus Whack, Waggle & Win Festival takes place at the Humewood Golf Club from May 29 to June 2.
The evenings will provide a chance to go deep into the art of survival because the man who knows something about all that will be the master of ceremonies for the week.
Port Elizabeth’s Tom Swartz, who outwitted his competitors in the Survivor Africa show to emerge as the 2018 winner, is sure to provide some fascinating insights into how it all unfolded.
On top of that, the festival organisers are arranging a line-up of sporting personalities for an “On the couch with a Celebrity” show each evening.
Humewood general manager Brendon Timm said they had signed up an array of sporting stars to provide the entertainment.
“We will have former Proteas cricketers Pat Symcox and Meyrick Pringle, as well as Warriors star Christiaan Jonker, joining us on the Thursday evening,” he said.
“Friday night has a rugby theme with ex-Springboks Robbi Kempson and Danie ‘Die Doring van Despatch’ Gerber there to entertain us.
“Saturday night is comedy night and you can book your tickets at the Humewood Golf Club as there is limited seating.”
It is sure to make for some memorable post-golf entertainment at the daily prize-giving, where an auction will be held with signed sports memorabilia, golf tours and hampers up for grabs.
Timm also acknowledged the support they had received from their title sponsors, Lexus.
“No festival of this nature is possible without the support of our loyal sponsors,” he said. “We are greatly indebted to Lexus for supporting the Whack, Waggle & Win Festival and we look forward to an exciting week with them.”
For their part, Lexus spokesman Ofentse Boloko said they were delighted to play a role in the festival.
“Lexus Port Elizabeth is very proud to be part of the Whack, Waggle & Win and we feel the Lexus brand will be a good fit at Humewood Golf Club,” he said.
“This is a great opportunity for Lexus Port Elizabeth and we will be having demo cars here to test drive, as well as a track around the course where you can experience the performance of our off-road vehicles.”
So there is plenty to look forward and that is without even mentioning the golf.
Of course, the famed Humewood links course will be central to the proceedings each day as the club offers a range of food and drink specials, plus the competition prizes for those who excel over 18 holes.
To make it stand out from your normal club competitions, there will be different formats each day, designed to make sure everyone is involved and to add some fun and mystery as you plot your way around the links.
Adding some incentive to the always challenging task of hitting the green of Humewood’s famed par-three sixth hole will be the Win-Win Challenge.
For R100 you can walk away with top-quality golf shirt if you hit the green. If not you will be in line to receive a R100 voucher from the Humewood Pro Shop. It’s one challenge that you simply cannot lose!
Another innovation is to buy a drive on the par-five 15th hole. By putting down R20 you can use the longer drive as your shot.
The green fee special this year is R180 per person, running from May 29 to June 2. Make sure to book your spot through the golf club or by emailing bookings@humewoodgolf.co.za.
