We Will Fight To Fix What We Can – We Will Never Sell Out

14 February 2025 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

Nelson Mandela Bay’s ANC-led coalition of corruption, with the help of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), has deprived two struggling wards in the Northern Areas and Kariega of almost R20 million.

At today’s Council meeting, this coalition of non-service delivery approved a budget amendment that redirected this R20 million from capital projects in the communities of Booysen Park (Ward 29), McCarthy informal settlement, Afghanistan, and Allanridge (all in Ward 48) to their support base in Joe Slovo.

Some of the funds that were redirected include:

  • In Ward 29, the PA supported the ANC and EFF in siphoning off R1.5 million that was earmarked for the development of a sports ground in Booysen Park.
  • Ward 48 was deprived of R18.5 million. This includes the residents of McCarthy informal settlement, Afghanistan, and Allanridge now having to do without R12 million and promised road construction.

This crucial funding has now been redirected to strengthen the ANC and EFF in Joe Slovo.

The ANC showed their hand by bringing this item to Council without it being tabled for discussion at the Human Settlements Standing Committee. Ward councillors therefore did not have an opportunity to make any input.

Instead of working to uplift every resident of Nelson Mandela Bay, the PA has chosen to withhold vital infrastructure and sell out certain communities for the political gain of the ANC and EFF.

The PA councillors who voted with the ANC should be utterly ashamed of their actions. They have shown they will sell their souls to the highest bidder and cannot be trusted with the votes of residents who want to see the metro work again.

All communities deserve to be treated with equality and dignity; they should never be made to feel like second-class citizens.

The DA will not abandon our people, through our councillors we will fight to fix what we can until we return to government in the metro in 2026 – when we will get NMB working again!

Regards

Cllr Rano Kayser
DA NMB Caucus Leader
