With the number of political parties on the rise in the Metro it is probably inevitable that same major negotiations will occur immediately after the Local Government Elections on 1 November 2021.
The ANC is batting off of a back foot, the DA faces a major backlash over the continued quiet around Mayor Bhanga, the EFF appear to have peaked and the major battle grounds are in the Northern Areas – a section of the Metro that, during the last elections, saw only 40 000 odd out of 260 000 odd registered voters come out and vote in 2016.
Depending on which political party you speak to the Coalition Government is referred to as:
- Coalition of Good Governance
- Coalition of Corruption or
- Circle of Chaos
A coalition is of necessity an uneasy partnership of unequal parties as most times a larger party needs that extra one or two seats in order to form a government. This involves negotiations on a National, Provincial and Local level as each party seeks to get the upper hand whilst appearing to be most accommodating…
From a personal point of view I will find it very hard to reconcile my Integrity with another party and live in the ‘happy dream’ that AIM will get a majority on it’s own come 1 November 2021.
