The DA is outraged that some of our residents in the Sundays River Valley region are without clean, safe drinking water once again. The areas of Aqua Park, Platin and Bhongweni have been deprived of water for four days now while enduring excessive heat, turning this into a crisis.
In Aqua Park, the residents are forced to collect dirty, unsafe water from a canal that is not fit for human consumption.
The DA stands for good governance and efficient service delivery, none of which the residents receive under the ANC Council. A repeat of the violent service delivery protests that rocked Kirkwood in 2014 must be avoided at all costs.
I attempted to contact the Municipal Manager, Lonwabo Ngoqo, to no avail. She then contacted the Mayor, Mbulelo Kebe, who advised her that the matter was being attended to by The Technical Director who was arranging for water deliveries to the affected areas. Nothing has been done since.
We urgently call on the Mayor, Mbulelo Kebe, and Municipal Manager, Lonwabo Ngoqo, to dispatch water tanks and to ensure that water is restored to these areas immediately.
Regards
Karen Smith
